The David Bowie Way

5:56pm on the clock, It was time to say my goodbyes to my ardent listeners & promise to be back soon in my sound proof studio. With my headphones stuck like glue to my ears , I faded out my voice and let David Bowie take over. Being a radio jockey always gave me the impetus to play music and artists close to my heart. I recall playing ‘Let’s Dance’ umpteen times as the signing off song on my two hour radio show. “I put on my red shoes and danced the blues :-). Bowie did and so did I!

The flame haired iconic rock star changed his style more dramatically than any other musician in history. Be it Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane, it was not just music but his clothes that projected his self expression and individuality. His radical views on sexuality and politics were an eye opener to the youth. A revolutionary who foresaw the future of things to come.

From the famous facism ( the lightening bolt) to knitted asymmetric patterned costumes, Bowie left no stone unturned – He was unapologetically fashionable!He had a flair for eclectic colors like salmon-pink, scarlet red, pastel green, mustards, cobalt blue.

Taking cue from the legend’s style school, I graced the famous single tone two-piece suit.

Having never owned a solid color pant suit before, styling my ensemble was a task indeed ( thrilling at the same time). I matched my wide leg tailored pants with a structured blazer that was closest in color to my trousers. Going one step ahead, I injected an abstract monochromatic button down shirt that added tad bit drama to my David Bowie ensemble. Keeping the elements of androgyny in mind, I wore a tie and sealed the look with a pair of heels that weren’t red but hey that didn’t stop me from dancing to the song that resonated in my ears .. in my heart. “Put on your red shoes and dance the blues”…. Let’s Dance!
